Have you ever had a friend that acted very chummy to you, but you knew that you were the chum? In the movie, I don’t think Ariel was a very good friend to Flounder- all she did was peer pressure him (him? I think Flounder’s a him?) into doing things the fish didn’t want to do, and made fun of him for being scared. If I were a lowly flounder living near natural enemies and also under the rule of a sea monarch who clearly has an anger problem, I might be a bit timid, too.
