Gargoyles are a pretty neat way of dealing with water drainage. Why have just a boring drain pipe when you could instead have a fountain of rain water spouting from a monster’s gullet? Why did this architectural element ever go out of style?? “Gargoyle” technically refers to these decorative yet functional spouts, but colloquially also can refer to any fantasy creature sculpture of a similar fashion even without a spout. Such a statue is also called a “grotesque” – which is not very nice! Gargoyle cat, I won’t call you such names!
