Empurrer Palpurrtine shocks everyone.

Like, for no reason at all…just goes around shooting lightning in every direction. But if you had the power to do so and also no morals whatsoever, what’s to stop you from doing that all the time?

I wanted to do something for Star Wars day to please others, so why not do a parody of this super popular, good-looking character? What? He’s not your favorite character? Shocking!

The Star Wars movies use imagery of evil that will all but smack you upside the face with its epic scale universal-ness, but fans that pay attention might also be reminded of a variety of historical particulars that inform the iconic villains. This interesting history.com article explores these particulars, and you may be surprised to learn that Emperor Palpatine was directly inspired by Richard Nixon. I thought this part interesting:

“In a 2005 interview published in the Chicago Tribune, Lucas said he originally conceived “Star Wars” as a reaction to Nixon’s presidency. “It was really about the Vietnam War, and that was the period where Nixon was trying to run for a [second] term, which got me to thinking historically about how do democracies get turned into dictatorships? Because the democracies aren’t overthrown; they’re given away.”
