“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” – Animal Farm, George Orwell

I read this book ages ago in school, before I took European history and before anyone bothered to explain anything to me about Joseph Stalin (who is the metaphorical subject of the book). It was strange (and by strange, I mean dumb) timing, but I liked the book anyway and this famous line stuck with me. It is absurd. It is truthful. It is a fitting witticism for any and all governments that idealize the concept of equality while simultaneously going to great lengths to fortify the barriers that stand in the way of it.
