The caringcal is the last of its kind, but no one else cares, so whatever.

The caringcal’s real world cousin- the caracal- is actually not endangered. Caracals are one of my favorite wild cats! I love their dramatic facial markings and long black tufts of ear fur. They are very striking! In fact they can jump 10 feet into the air to strike!

Caracals may not be endangered but there are many other wild cat species that are. And beyond felines, there are all kinds of different species that are experiencing endangerment and extinction. We can pretty easily keep track of the large mammals, but there is an unknown number of small animals that are being snuffed out without our notice as their territories change. There is good reason to believe- as scientists do- that we are in the midst of a mass extinction event that the majority of species on Earth right now may not see the other side of. Conservationists do what they can, but the reality is grim.
