I wanna be an anarchcat

“Anarchy in the U.K.” by Sex Pistols is one of those songs that can pop into my head at any moment for no real reason whatsoever, and get stuck there for days and I just can’t get rid of it.

Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th is not something that we here in the States know much about- my introduction to the British holiday was the comic “V for Vendetta”- in which a vigilante in a Guy Fawkes mask wreaks havoc on a bleakly oppressive totalitarian version of 1990’s England. It is coincidence that the holiday falls close to our election day in the U.S., but there is no more appropriate time to invoke the most (dare I say) Vigilant sort of patriotism as we all turn to the polls.

“Since mankind’s dawn, a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves. By doing so, they took our power. By doing nothing, we gave it away. We’ve seen where their way leads, through camps and wars, toward the slaughterhouse…tonight, you must choose what comes next. Lives of our own, or a return to chains. Choose carefully.”

-V for Vendetta, Alan Moore & David Lloyd

All cats are anarchists. They have no respect for authority whatsoever. My cats forever live in the land of “Do as you please.” Somehow, they have not figured out how to unroll the toilet paper, and for that I am grateful.
