Catalope
It doesn’t matter if you believe in the catalope / The catalope believes in you!
I just wanted to draw something girly and cute. What came out was this Lisa Frank in the forest of feelings nonsense.
This is based on the idea of a jackalope – in the American West this animal is said to be the offspring of an antelope (actually a pronghorn) and a jack rabbit. It is also said that they can mimic human voices for some reason. The jackalope legend was popularized by taxidermists who fixed antlers to hares’ heads. However, there is also a legitimate disease called papillomatosis that causes bumpy growths on top of hares’ heads that kind of sort of look like horns.
The jackalope has European counterparts as well. In Sweden a taxidermist pieced together a rabbit/grouse hybrid called a skvader. In Germany the wolpertinger is another type of rabbit with other added animal parts, though physical descriptions may vary.
